About Alexander Ivan

I’m Alexander Ivan. I’ve spent 15 years in software delivery and product development, including leadership in software engineering. That experience has taught me that building software is only part of the challenge. The harder questions are often: What is worth building? How should it work? And how will we know it created value?
I’m especially interested in how the pieces connect — business goals, product decisions, technology, people, processes, and the measures that tell us whether any of it is working. My focus is increasingly on scaling impact, not just delivering output.
I think about this through five connected perspectives: operator, owner, product, vision, and strategy. Together, they form the foundation of how I approach AI business leadership. AI is opening up new possibilities, but adopting tools isn’t the same as transforming a business. Meaningful change also requires rethinking decisions, workflows, accountability, and what customers actually need.
Alongside my professional work, I’m building Onsday, a daily puzzle product. It’s a practical way to explore the full journey from idea to product — and the much harder journey from product to sustainable business. I write about decisions, experiments, user experience, product marketing, feedback, growth questions, mistakes, and what I learn along the way. I distinguish what I’ve built from what I’ve actually proven.
This Substack is where I share perspectives on AI and business transformation, product strategy, practical AI-assisted building, OKRs and metrics, and leadership decisions. Some posts will be hands-on guides; others will be reflections on real work, trade-offs, or assumptions I’m still testing.
My guiding principle is simple: I know. I help. I share. Not because I have all the answers, but because knowledge becomes more valuable when we make our reasoning visible, test our ideas, and share what experience teaches us.
